Warden MessageUS Embassy LuandaLuanda, AngolaAugust 15, 2008In observance of Angolan legislative elections, the U.S. Embassy in Angola will be closed to the public for routine services on Friday, September 5.
The official election campaign period began on August 5 and runs for 30 days, until the nationwide September 5 legislative elections. After Election Day, the National Election Commission has a window of up to 15 days to announce election results. During the campaign and the period after Election Day, U.S. citizens are reminded to exercise caution and common sense regarding their personal security. We remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstration. American citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times.
U.S. citizens should contact the U.S. Embassy to report any disturbances or personal security incidents. See contact information below.
Additional reminders to keep yourself safe and aware:
Continue to practice good personal security measures.
Consult wardens, counterparts and trusted members of the community for information about local security conditions in your area.
Ensure that you have an adequate supply of non-perishable food, water, and fuel/gasoline.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, Travel Warnings, and health-information resources can be found.
