ECA 

The Office of Academic Exchange Programs in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is soliciting applicants for a new eight-week Undergraduate Intensive English Language Study Program.  

The Undergraduate Intensive English Language Study Program will enroll undergraduate students from underserved sectors, with preference given to females, who demonstrate the potential to become student leaders, in eight-week intensive language courses at The University of Delaware, in Newark, Delaware in the United States.  It will also provide them with an introduction to American institutions, society and culture.

Candidates will meet the following criteria:

1) Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (recent graduates may be considered if Post provides adequate justification)

2) Leadership potential

3) Individuals from disadvantaged sectors of society or minority groups, with a preference given to female candidates

4) English language ability (approximately in the 420-480 TOEFL range, see below)

5) Statement of Interest / Project Proposal (see below)

Candidates for 2010 Fulbright awards who did not meet the 480 TOEFL cutoff may be potential candidates for this program and may be considered. 

A total of 60 students worldwide will be hosted in two cohorts of 30 students each at the University of Delaware on following program dates:

Cohort 1:             April 26-June 18, 2010

Cohort 2:             June 21-August 13, 2010

African Countries eligible to participate in this program include:

Angola                7 nominations (4 Principals + up to 3 Alternates)

Cameroon            7 nominations (4 Principals + up to 3 Alternates)

Mauritania           7 nominations (4 Principals + up to 3 Alternates)

Rwanda              7 nominations (4 Principals + up to 3 Alternates)

South Africa       7 nominations (4 Principals + up to 3 Alternates)
