Fax: (244) 222-641-259
E-mail: consularluanda@state.gov

The Consular Section operates a warden system to communicate with American citizens in Angola. The Consular Officer sends periodic messages to test the system so that it will be effective should an emergency situation arise. Find here the latest warden message.

The Consular Section can provide up to date information regarding security conditions in Angola, travel to Angola (Consular Information Sheet), and living in Angola, as well as information for business travelers.

Special Note: The Angolan Embassy in Washington has advised that Americans traveling to reside in Angola may hand carry their resident visa applications to Angola. This means that travelers should still obtain the regular travel visa to enter Angola and should initiate the resident visa application process with the Angolan Embassy. Instead of the Angolan Embassy sending the documents to Angola, Americans may hand carry them and continue the residence application process upon arrival. Please note that the process must be initiated with the Angolan Embassy prior to travel to Angola. Please click for more information about acquiring visas to visit Angola.

Please click on any of the below links to read more information about consular services available in Angola. The Department of State website is also a good source for additional information about many services for American citizens abroad:

In the event of an emergency outside of business hours, Americans resident in Angola can reach an American employed by the U.S. Embassy by calling the Duty Officer on the following cell phone number - (244) 923-404-209.

Other Information

The Consular Section of U.S. Embassy Luanda can:

Issue a Consular Report of Birth Abroad when an American citizen has a child abroad. In Angola, we process the documents for children born to American citizens in Angola; we also can assist with the process for American citizens resident in Angola who may have arranged for their child's birth in a third country (i.e., South Africa or Portugal).

Handle personal estates of deceased U.S. citizens.

Assist with absentee voting and Selective Service registration. For information on absentee voting see the federal voting assistance program. For any voting issue, please send an e-mail to the Consular Section of the US Embassy in Angola at voteluanda@state.gov .

Provide U.S. tax forms, also available online from the IRS.

Provide information regarding other U.S. government services, including Social Security and veterans' benefits.

Consular Officers cannot act as travel agents, banks, lawyers, investigators, or law enforcement officers. Please do not expect them to find you employment, get you residence or driving permits, act as interpreters, search for missing luggage, settle disputes with hotel managers, or obtain Angolan or third country visas for you. They can, however, tell you how to get help on these and other matters.
