The United States Defense Attaché Office performs official functions on behalf of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chiefs of the U. S. Military Services, and Regional Commander. 

Principle areas of engagement are: Security Assistance, HIV/AIDS Education & Prevention Programs, Humanitarian Assistance Projects and Construction, and liaison support to facilitate Military Cooperation between the U.S. and Angola.

The Defense Attaché Office at the American Embassy, Luanda Angola is staffed with the following positions: Lieutenant Colonel-Defense and Army Attaché, Major-Assistant Army Attaché, and Master Sergeant- Operations Coordinator.
