On October 13, 2005, the US Mission to Angola inaugurated and officially opened its new Embassy facility, located at Rua Houari Boumedienne #32, in the Miramar neighborhood of Luanda. The new and modern building houses an Executive Suite and offices for the Political and Economic/Commercial Section, Public Affairs Section, Consular Section, Defense Attaché, USAID, and several support offices. The building was inaugurated by former US Ambassador to Angola, Christopher W. Dell, the Director and Chief Operating Officer of Overseas Building Operations of the Department of State, General Charles Williams, and the U.S. Ambassador to Angola, Cynthia G. Efird. In a remark she gave at the event Ambassador Efird encapsulated the significance of the occasion in the following words: "...For me this building is just more than bricks and mortar. As I said many times, this building is a symbol. I think it is a symbol of rebuilding in this country. It is a symbol that this country is being successfully rebuilt. It is a symbol of the work of the United States of America in this country. It is also a symbol of the strong and growing relationship between the United States and Angola."
